The Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) has said Maoist insurgents have shot dead a civilian in southern terai district of Rautahat on Monday.

According to RNA, a group of armed insurgents tortured and shot dead Laxmi Yadav in the premises of Samanpur of Rautahat district and assaulted his mother seriously. The reason for Maoist assault could not be known. The incident took place during the three-month-long unilateral ceasefire declared by the rebels.

In a separate incident, Karidevi Mukhiya and her 14-year-old daughter, Anju Kumari, were injured seriously when a bomb left behind by the Maoists exploded at Badaharmala area in Siraha district. The mother and daughter duo were collecting firewood when the explosion took place. They are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, the army said.

In yet another incident, Maoist insurgents have stopped a health clinic being organised in the remote Gaira and Dharadhiri area of Semjong VDC in Dhading district and looted the medicines that was to be distributed freely among the local people. Kantipur daily reported that the rebels asked the health workers to return from the area without organizing the camp. Social Awareness and Development Forum, a local NGO, had organised the health camp in support with Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH)—a Kathmandu-based non-governmental organisation.

There has been no word from the rebels regarding these incidents. Compiled from reports.
