Merely 24 hours after the Maoists pulled out of the ceasefire, the Maoists shot dead an army colonel and wounded another Thursday morning.
Colonel Kiran Bahadur Basnet succumbed to injuries at the Birendra Army Hospital, Chhauni at around 10 a.m. while undergoing treatment. Three masked men shot him at his residence at Baneshwor. The assailants ran away as soon as they shot him.
Likewise, the Maoists shot and injured Colonel Rabindra Chhetri (KC) at Samakhushi area Thursday morning. Chhetri was on his way to the army headquarters where he works in the publicity department. He was shot on his hand and leg, and is undergoing treatment at the army hospital.
Security has massively stepped up in and around the capital. All three security bodies, the Army, Armed Police and the Civil Police are in red alert while the security checks at the main entry posts in the entire country have been beefed up, sources confirmed.
