One of the members of the Maoist talks team and central committee member of the Maoists, Dev Gurung, has said that the Maoists were committed towards free and fair competitive economic policy.
Speaking at a program on ‘Future Economic Roadmap’ jointly organized by Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and Society of Economic Journalists- Nepal (SEJON-Nepal), Gurung said, “CPN Maoist recognizes economic development and prosperity is not possible unless industries flourish and wealth is created.”
Gurung also asserted that conflict arose in the country mainly due to uneven distribution, lack of social commitment and unhealthy competition and added that inclusive democracy is a must to correct those flaws.

Addressing the same program, Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC said that it was impractical to expect a long-term economic roadmap when the country is undergoing state restructuring.
CPN-UML leader, Bam Dev Gautam, stated that economic issues would not take central stage unless pertinent political issues are settled.
“We must understand we are in a transition stage, and the economy will have to be driven through immediate short-term plans,” he added.
