A press statement issued by the Maoist supremo Prachanda said they decided to extend the ceasefire as per people’s aspiration for peace.
The statement said the party the historic eight point agreement between the ruling seven party alliance and the Maoists is a achievement during the three month long ceasefire, adding, “The party has decided to extend the ceasefire by three more months for effective implementation of the eight point agreement and to give peaceful outlet to the country.”
The Maoists and the leaders of ruling seven political parties reached to the eight point agreement during the high level talks held at Prime Minister’s residence on June 16.
In the same statement, Prachanda charged that the coalition government of the seven political parties and the parliament have been trying to turn their back from the eight point agreement with various excuses in the tune of some foreigners.
The Maoist supremo said that the activities of the government and the parliament is against the sprit of the popular movement of the country and appealed to the coalition government to move ahead as per the sprit of the historic eight point agreement and warned that they will launch another peaceful people’s movement even during the period of ceasefire.
The Maoists announced a three month long unilateral ceasefire on April 27, following the success of the popular movement of the country and the coalition government later reciprocated it.
