Continuing their excesses even after joining the interim government, Maoists have padlocked the Siraha municipality office from Tuesday to protest against the alleged distribution of citizenship certificates to Indian nationals.

A group of Maoist cadres led by Ram Kumar Yadav of ward number 22 threatened the citizenship certificate distribution team members and padlocked the office forcefully.

Chief of the citizenship certificate distribution team, Dilip Lamichhane, said that the team stopped distribution of citizenship certificates due to security reasons. He however added that citizenship papers will be distributed by the District Administration Office.

Hundreds of people who came to the municipality office to get citizenship certificates were deprived of the papers due to the padlocking.

Meanwhile, a report from Bardiya said activists of Maoist affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) vandalized the house of Yuvaraj Adhikari, Bardiya correspondent of state-owned Radio Nepal, Wednesday.

According to Adhikari, he was chased away by a group of YCL cadres while returning home after reporting an incident near the Armed Police Force office at Sanoshree.

Similarly, Maoists beat up Dhanraj Giri and Nripa Rawal of Baliya and Chuha VDCs of Kailali on Tuesday.

According to locals, the Maoists seized Giri from his house and took him to Gulara of Chuha VDC where he was thrashed badly. Rawal was beaten up while attempting to stop the atrocity.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress has condemned the attack of Maoist affiliated student union and YCL at Padma Kanya campus of the capital. The party has said that the act of Maoist affiliated student union to beat students affiliated with other political parties is condemnable.

Similarly, issuing a separate statement, Nepal Professors Association also condemned the incident and demanded independent probe into the incident.
