A group of Maoists Wednesday night shot dead Ambika Timalshina who defected from the underground party and was living a normal life at Pathari village in Morang, police said. The rebels dragged Timilshina out of his home and shot him dead in a nearby field.

Timilshina surrendered to the local administration five months ago. Nobody was injured when Maoists Thursday set off a time bomb at Srikrishna Secondary School at Sindhupalchowk district headquarters Chautara, police said.

Rebels simultaneously set off bombs Wednesday at the Armed Police post at Baramjhiya. Rajbiraj Municipality Office and the Mahendra Bindeshwari Multiple Campus in Saptari district, police said.

The only war in Asia was between Maoist rebels and the government of Nepal but there were 12 other serious  conflicts including secessionist struggles in Indonesia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka, AFP said quoting a German research institute report Thursday.

On the international scale, the only war to spread  over and beyond national borders was the US-led campaign against the extremist Al-Qaeda network blamed for the September 11 bombings, according to the institute. The world has suffered 42 new or ongoing violent conflicts this year, the AFP quoted the institute as saying.
