Maoist insurgents have taken into control two tankers carrying diesel and kerosene from a place called Bauniya section of the East-West highway in the far-western district of Kailali on Sunday and taken to some unknown destination along with their drivers.
According to Dhangadhi branch of the state-owned Nepal Oil Corporation, the tankers were carrying 12,000 litres of diesel and 12,000 litres of kerosene worth a total of approximately Rs one million.
There has been no word from the Maoists as yet regarding the incident.
In a statement issued a few weeks ago, the Maoist-affiliated student body ANNFSU (Revolutionary) had announced that it would seize petroleum products during Dashain holidays and distribute them to local people.
The student body has been protesting recent hike in the price of petroleum products.
