Maoists bomb Spinning Mills of asst. minister Jyoti

A group of armed Maoists exploded a powerful bomb at Jyoti Spinning Mills belonging to assistant minister for Finance Dr Rup Jyoti in Parwanipur of Parsa district on Wednesday night.

According to the security sources, a group of about 100-armed Maoists entered the factory, took the guard under control and exploded the bomb.

Maoists also set fire in the main machine building and stores of the factory, the sources added. “Soon after the incident, Birgunj based security troops and four fire brigades were deployed till Thursday morning to put off the fire that erupted after the explosions,” security officials told Nepalnews. There is no report of human casualty in the incident, the officials said.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified security operations to track down the rebels involved in the incident, reports coming in said.

A mill of Jyoti group, it provided employment to nearly 2,000 people. Jyoti Group is the largest business house in Nepal.

Though accurate evaluation of the loss of the property in the arson and explosions is yet to be calculated, material goods worth tens of millions were damaged in the accident, reports said.

The reason behind the Maoist attack was not known.
