KATHMANDU: Maoists blew up a repeater station of the Nepal Telecommunications Corporation (NTC) at Firku village in Nuwakot district Friday night at 11.45 PM disrupting local communications, locals said. A group of about 50 armed rebels drove away guards and blasted the tower.
Insurgents have target the NTC towers to disrupt local and regional communications nation-wide. An army contingent guarding the tower withdrew Wednesday before the attack.
Government is mulling a new strategy to protect the telecommunication facility nation-wide.
