Chairman of CPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda Saturday called on the Indian government to release the party politburo member CP Gajurel, alias Gaurab, who was arrested in Chennai.

Prachanda in a press statement sent via email tried to justify Gajurel’s attempt to travel to Europe on a forged passport, saying Gajurel was going on a publicity mission.

“Comrade Gajurel was traveling to publicise the party’s policies and programs in Europe as per the party’s decision,” Prachanda said.

“Gajurel’s attempt to travel to Europe should not be made a big issue, especially since the peace process in Nepal is being supported by the Indian government.”

“Gajurel’s release will not only be evidence of the Indian government’s desire to establish peace in Nepal, but will also give a new direction to our diplomatic relations,” a report in the Himalayan Times quoted Prachanda, as saying.
