The Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) has said Maoist insurgents have abducted more than 100 people from two western districts over the past few days.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Public Relations Directorate of RNA said the Maoists on Wednesday abducted 60 people from Sifti area in far-western district of Darchula, some 800 km west of Kathmandu.

In a separate incident, at least 40 people were abducted on Tuesday from Deurali, Baluwa and Arwang areas of Gorkha district, some 200 km west of Kathmandu, the Army said.

The insurgents have also abducted a teacher and chairman of the management committee of Bhagirath Secondary School in Sanischare area of Morang district in eastern Nepal, according to the RNA .

There has been no response from the Maoist side as yet regarding latest reports of alleged abduction of civilians by them. Earlier, top Maoist leader, Prachanda, said he had instructed his party cadres not to harass or intimidate civilians including opposition party activists.
