The five member Maoist negotiating team headed by Dr. Baburam Bhattarai will be feted at a public meeting Thursday afternoon at the Open Air Theater ahead of goodwill talks between the Government and Maoists to negotiate a peace to end a seven year communist insurgency.

A rebel appointed talks management facilitating committee is organizing the public meeting. Dr. Bhattarai could make an important announcement before the people of Kathmandu Wednesday.

Chief Government Negotiator and Minister for Physical Planning Col. Narayan Singh Pun said the first round of talks will be held Thursday.

Dr. Bhattarai has been monopolizing the limelight after coming out of hiding Saturday for the first time in seven years to lead the negotiating team.

Dr. Bhattarai and his team also met with Narayanman Bijukakchaya of the Nepal Majdoor Kishan Party and Hridesh Tripathi of the rebel Nepal Sadbavana Party Tuesday and discussed rebel demands for a roundtable conference, an interim government and a constituent assembly. nepalnews.com br April 2
