A central leader of the Maoists has defended the raising of donations by his party. Speaking at a program in the capital, Suresh Ale Magar has urged all concerned to remember that the country today has “two states, two powers and two armies.”
“Because of confrontation between two states, we have seen many problems,” Magar said. “Definitely, we raise donations. What we can agree, however, is that such donations must not be raised forcefully or under fear of weapons.”
Magar also complained about what he termed as “blowing out of proportion” the problem of ‘donation.’ “It looks as if there were no problem in the country and suddenly when the Maoists started raising donation, the country landed into a huge problem. Can anybody guarantee that all problems of the country will vanish once the Maoists stop raising donations?” he asked. His remarks came at a time when Maoists have been receiving flak from domestic individuals, organizations and the government as well as international community for causing ‘terror of extortion.’
Stating that the rebellion by the Maoists of Nepal was different than any other kind of religious or ethnic rebellion elsewhere in the world, Magar said the resolution of the Maoist rebellion here cannot be found in ‘traditional manner.’
