Maoist leader Ram Bahadur Thapa alias Badal, said to be the coordinator of the rebels’ “people’s liberation army”, has bank account(s) in Singapore, Space Time revealed Thursday, quoting a probe body.
The daily, quoting sources at the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), said, the Maoist leader’s bank account(s) were discovered in course of probing the bank accounts of some corruption-indicted politicians.
The CIAA sources did not want to mention the amount Badal had deposited at the Singaporean bank(s), the daily said. The daily has not mentioned name of the bank(s).
Noteworthy, the US government, a few months ago, had officially imposed a sanction to freeze all properties, valuables and bank accounts of Nepali Maoists in the USA, if there was any.
The US Secretary of State Collin Powel then had urged other countries to follow the suit. Later on, Indian authorities tried to investigate bank accounts of possible Nepali Maoists in the Indian banks, according to agency reports.
This is the first time that a top Maoist rebel’s deposits have been discovered abroad.
