Kathmandu, Nov.9: A suspected Maoist was killed recently in an exchange of gunfire with police while two others were injured at Ghireug village in Gorkha district, police said.
Dipak Devkota, a local rebel commander, died on the stop and the injured were carried away by colleagues to a nearby jungle, police said.
Rebels returned policeman Dilip Gurung to his relatives in Dolakha district Tuesday night after abduction from a police post in neighbouring Ramechap district five days earlier, a human rights activist said.
One policeman was killed, several others were injured and the police post was completely destroyed in the attack immediately after failed negotiations between the government and rebels to begin talks to end an insurgency that has claimed at least 1450 lives in nearly five years.
Human rights activist Padma Ratna Tuladhar brokered the failed talks last month.Maoists dug a tunnel, entered the Nepal Bank Ltd. in Khalanga in Baitadi district and decamped with Rs.3 million worth of deposits and cash recently in the first incident of its kind, police said.
