KATHMANDU: Security personnel shot dead a Maoist at a village in Gorkha after he attempted to break a military cordon Tuesday, the Defence Ministry said. An insurgent died Tuesday at Dhulikhel hospital of bullet injuries sustained while attempting to blow up the Sun Kosi hydel project, the Ministry said.

The military in Rolpa Tuesday recovered additional weapons seized by Maoists in at attack on an army barrack in Dang last month, another announcement said. Maoists continued to surrender to local administrators Tuesday in various districts, reports said.

Security was tightened at government offices in the capital Tuesday after entry permits were issued to visitors at Singha Durbar central secretariat on presentation of identification papers. The military has asked people to furnish it information about rebels and stay away from places frequented by Maoists.

The second  person injured in Monday’s bomb attack at a carpet showroom in Lalitpur died at Patan Hospital Tuesday, hospital sources said.
