Coordinator of the Maoist talks team Krishna Bahadur Mahara has said that Maoists are on the verge of an agreement with the coalition government of the seven party alliance on supervision of arms of both the armies by a credible organisation.

Speaking at a programme in the capital on Wednesday, Mahara, who is also the Maoists’ spokesperson said, “International communities want us to lay down arms before an election to a Constituent Assembly, but we have almost reached an agreement to keep the arms of both the armies under the supervision of a credible organization.”

Mahara said the Maoists are preparing to enter the political mainstream and are holding consultations with several experts on it.

Coming down heavily to the parliamentary political parties, Mahara said, “The parliamentarians are very much frightened of the mass meetings being organised by the Maoists in different parts because they know they do not enjoy any public support.”

Despite clear evidence of Maoist atrocities during the period of ceasefire, Mahara said that they have not abducted anyone and the donation drive is being conducted clearly on a voluntary basis only.

Stating that the parliament does not have the mandate of the movement, Mahara demanded that it be dissolved immediately and called for forming an interim constitution and government to hold the election of the constituent assembly.

However, the seven party alliance have been ruling out such claim and saying that the parliament must remain until there is some institution representing people.
