Maoist chairman Prachanda met with UN General Secretary Kofi Annan’s special representative to assist Nepal’s peace process, Ian Martin, Friday as well to discuss the issue of arms management.
Maoist leader Dr. Babu Ram Bhattrai was also present at the meeting, reports said.
Prachanda and Martin had held discussions Thursday also.
According to Maoist sources, they discussed, among other things, arms management as per the agreement between the ruling seven party alliance and Maoists; cantonments, monitoring of weapons, UN’s possible role in constituent assembly elections.
Stating that delay in peace talks would affect constituent assembly polls, Martin urged the Maoist leaders to conclude the talks positively soon, said the sources.
The four rounds of summit level talks between the ruling seven party alliance and Maoist postponed inconclusively after both the sides failed to reach consensus in the issue of Maoist arms management and fate of monarchy.
