In a clear violation of ceasefire code of conduct and the agreement reached between the seven political parties and Maoists, the Maoists have ‘appointed’ the vice-chairman of their people’s government as acting DDC president and seated him in the DDC office of Parbat, a newspaper report said.

The Maoists have claimed they did so due to their exclusion from DDC meetings and from budgetary decisions, as well as the lack of recognition of the Maoists as a political party, reports the Kantipur daily.

A team led by Maoist district secretary Saroj appointed Bishnu Lamichhane as acting DDC president. The Maoists have claimed the new president was appointed on the basis of “people’s power”. The rebels have ordered DDC officials to accept the decision.

However, local leaders of seven political parties said the decision was condemnable and added that Maoists should reconsider the decision as such decisions ruin mutual trust.

In the eight point agreement between the ruling seven political parties and the Maoists, both the sides agreed to dissolve the parliament and people’s government of Maoists after adopting the interim constitution.
