The visiting Malaysian home minister Dato Azmi Bin Khalid has said the Malaysian government is serious over the exploitation and difficulties faced by the Nepali migrant workers.

Following a meeting with Prime Minsiter Sher Bahadur Deuba Thursday, Khalid told the media that the Malaysian government was in favor of clear-cut policies governing migrant workers and wanted a simplified and foolproof visa system.

“It is sad that some Nepali workers have gone through difficulties in Malaysia,” Khalid said. Dubbing the deportation of Nepali workers from Malaysia due to fake visa documents as unfortunate, he said, “Our concern is for clear policies so that workers do not have to spend much money and face exploitation.”

Meanwhile, secretaries of the home ministries of both countries held a meeting this morning. Simplification of visa regulations and the working conditions on the part of Nepali workers in Malaysia were some of the issues discussed.
