Mainali re-elected general secretary of CPN-ML

CP Mainali has been re-elected general secretary of Communist Party of Nepal-Marxist and Leninist (CPN- ML). The recently concluded third national convention of the party re-elected Mainali to the post. The four-day national convention of the party that concluded in Kathmandu on Wednesday has elected a five-member politburo led by Mainali. The other newly elected politburo members are Narayan Prasad Acharya, Jagat Bahadur Bogati, Dambar Shrestha and Kumar Belbase.

As per the information given at a press conference on Thursday, the convention has also elected a 43-member central committee.

Addressing the press conference, Mainali informed that the convention adopted “new democracy” as its programme and also adopted a new party statute and a political report.

The convention stressed the need for democratic republic and federal system of governance based on linguistic and ethnic distribution. It also emphasised on bringing about unity among the Leftist forces during the constituent assembly elections.

A statement issued at the end of the four-day long convention said that the party would strive to ensure that there would be only one left candidate in a constituency so that more left candidates could win the assembly elections.

The convention also welcomed the formation of the interim government and five documents, including the common minimum programme of the interim government, adopted by the eight political parties.

It also stressed the need to keep intact the eight-party unity till the constituent assembly polls.
