Hindu devotees are celebrating Maha Shivaratri, a major religious festival of Hindus, across the country on Tuesday.
In Kathmandu, tens of thousands of Hindu devotees from across the country and neighboring India take a holy dip today in the holy Bagmati river flowing by the Pashupati temple as a show of respect to Lord Shiva, supreme lord of Hindus.Thousands of sadhus (Hindu saints) and devote Their Majesties the King and Queen pay homage to the national deity later in the day.
In Nepal, the festival is observed as a national holiday. Devotes have already reached the Pashupati area to worship Lord Pashupatinath on this occasion. Curious tourists, especially from the western countries, could be seen walking along the banks of the Bagmati river witnessing interesting yogic demonstrations.
