The Democratic Madheshi Society sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister through Chief District Officer, Dhanusha, urging the government to solve the long standing problem of citizenship of the Terai community on Tuesday.
The society has demanded the effective implementation of the report submitted by Mahanta Thakur commission before the royal takeover and the declaration of the House adopted on May 18. The report and the declaration stress on solving the citizenship problem in the Terai at the earliest possible.
“We demand to provide citizenship immediately to the 4 million Madheshis and their inclusion in the voter list for the constituent assembly, which should be shaped on the basis of constituency based on uniform proportionate representation of the people with one man- one vote principle,” the memorandum reads.
The HoR in its May 18 declaration stated to address the citizenship issue as soon as possible.
