Reports from Nepalgunj say local people in Laxmanpur VDC in mid-western district of Banke have attacked and killed at least five suspected Maoists Saturday evening.
The reason of clashes was not immediately known.
Local officials in Banke said a security team had already left for the area and that they did not have details as yet.
The incident comes weeks after similar retaliation by local people in Makwanpur, Dhading and Nuwakot against suspected Maoists. Rights groups blamed security forces of promoting vigilantes to take on suspected rebels. The authorities deny such allegations.
In a recent statement, Royal Nepalese Army had urged villagers not to lynch suspected rebels instead hand them over to local security agencies.
