KATHMANDU: Eight communist groups including main opposition CPN-UML met today and agreed to forge a working unity to fight against possible “political regression” and other problems of the nation.
The meeting was organized by CPN-UML in Balkhu and discussed the current political situation, government-Maoist talks and the land reform programme announced by the government.
A statement was issued at the end of the meeting saying left parties agreed to fight against attempts to impose any form of political regression in the country. It decided to put further pressure on the government to lower the ceiling on land as the Bill presented by the government on ceiling on land does not solve the problems of the people, the statement further stated.
Representatives of all left parties agreed that the Maoist insurgency should be solved through dialogue and the present dialogue between the government and Maoists should be carried to a logical end. Eight left parties had met last Friday also and discussed the current situation of the country.
In today’s meeting there were representatives of CPN-UML, CPN-ML, United People’s Front, National People’s Front, Nepal Communist Party (United), Nepal Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist-Maoist), Nepal Majdoor and Kisan Party and Nepal Communist Party (Marxist).
The meeting also formed a committee comprising one member from each party to draft a joint programme.
