Leaders express dissatisfaction over eight point agreement

Leaders of the seven-party alliance (SPA) concluded that enough homework was not done and no consultations were made with alliance partners before reaching the historical eight-point pact between the seven party alliance and the Maoists.

The meeting of the SPA held at the CPN-UML’s headquarters at Balkhu on Thursday to review the eight point agreement also concluded that the alliance and the Maoists made a mistake by excluding woman representatives in the committee drafting interim statute.

The meeting also agreed to review some of the decisions, which are deemed faulty.

General secretary of the Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandi) Rajendra Mahato said big parties made mistakes while reaching the agreement and the decisions taken by the alliance and the parliament were not implemented.

The leaders expressed serious objection over the agreement to dissolve the House of Representatives.

The leaders also stressed the need of finalizing the modality for making political appointments in universities, government corporations and diplomatic mission.

Vice-president of the Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala, who was also present in the meeting, is learnt to have conceded that there was some procedural mistakes while reaching the agreement.

Talking to journalists after the meeting UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said they discussed ways to move ahead. However, NC general secretary Ram Chandra Poudel said so many issues were raised during the meeting but no decision was taken.

The meeting also discussed the content of the letter to be sent to the United Nations requesting the world body to monitor arms of the state and the Maoists.
