Leaders call for role of NRN in institutionalizing democracy

Leaders of various political parties have said that appropriate legal provisions should be formulated to help Non Resident Nepalis (NRN) participate in the process of consolidating the democratic exercise in Nepal.

Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the International Nepali Students’ Organization (INSO), they said such provisions would also contribute to economic development in the country.

Speaking at the interaction, speaker of the reinstate House of Representatives, Subash Nemwang said that skilled and experienced people should contribute role in the development of the country, adding, “The government is always ready to amend its policies so that the NRNs could contribute to the development of the country.”

“The NRNs need to be active both at individual and public levels to make the Nepali people sovereign through the CA poll,” Nemwang said.

Nemwang also asked NRNs to suggest how the government could best utilize their expertise and resources in the country’s development intitiatives.

Speaking at the same programme, Nepali Congress leader Chakara Prasad Bastola said Nepal needs to make its vision clear on its nationals living abroad.

He added hat the upcoming constitution should ponder the legal and practical aspects of providing Nepalis living abroad dual citizenship.

He added that Nepalis, who have returned from the foreign countries, should participate in making a new Nepal.

State Minister for Labour and Transport Management Ramesh Lekhak said that Nepalis were working in different countries and they have different experiences. He said they were bringing skills into the country and that should be utilised for the economical development of the country.

Secretary General of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Deepak Bohora said that the NRNs should be provided voting rights and that right should be ensured.

President of INSO Pradip Khanal asked the government to formulate policies that will encourage NRNs to put their expertise and capital resources to use in Nepal.

On the occasion, INSO felicitated eight personalities with the International Golden Recognition award. Those felicitated include human rights activist Tek Nath Rijal, educationist Gorakh Bahadur Singh, cine artiste Tulasi Ghimire, musician Buddha Bir Lama, engineer IR Tamang and astrologer Shree Hari Kharel.
