Lawmakers of the interim parliament have expressed dissatisfaction over the recent statement of Maoist lawmaker regarding weapons.

Maoist lawmaker Lokendra Bista had during an all-party meet at the parliament secretariat in Singhdurbar on Monday said he had a pistol in his pocket and dared other lawmakers to take action against him.

Speaking at the Thursday’s session of the parliament, lawmakers from various parties said the Maoist MP’s statement is objectionable and demanded apology from the Maoist parliamentary party.

They said Bista’s statement proved that Maoists were still doing the politics of power.

Following the objection of the lawmakers, Maoist deputy leader in the parliament, Dev Gurung, apologised for the statement of Bista and assured that such things would not repeat in the future.

Meanwhile, chief whips of various political parties met with speaker Subas Nemwang and discussed about the controversial statement of MP Bista.

The chief whips maintained that it was objectionable that the Maoists, on the eve of their inclusion into the interim government, would speak a “language of arms”.

Security has been tightened in Singhdurbar area and inside the parliament building from today.

Now on, the lawmakers have to go through security check before entering the parliament building.

Police had confiscated a pistol from Bista’s bodyguard in Singha Durbar recently.
