Lawmakers demand transparency in probe of High level commission
Lawmakers have called for transparency in the ongoing investigation by the High-level commission formed to probe atrocities committed to suppress the pro-democracy movement of the country.
During special hour at the reinstated House of Representatives on Friday, MPs expressed disenchantment with the government’s failure to take the ‘culprits” of the people’s movement under control and to take action.
They asked to give the media personnel free access for reporting the interrogation of former officials involved in killing and suppressing the people during the Jana Andalon-II.
“Media personnel should be given free access so that they can report the interrogation,” said UML MP Ishwor Pokhrel adding, “Due to secret proceedings, the culprits are coming out of the Commission’s office with pride.”
Stating that Rayamajhi commission has not been allowing the media to watch the interrogation, another UML MP Sher Dhan Rai charged that the commission is not serious about taking action against the suppressors of the Jana Andalon-II.
Dilli Raj Sharma of Nepali Congress said it was shameful that the biggest oppressors are freely traveling on the streets but the inferior ones are being interrogated.
NP Saud of NC (Democratic) complained that the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee did not even consult the House, the sole authority to formulate laws for the state.
UML MP Raghuji Pant called the government to either privatise the government run medias or turn them into cooperatives, adding, “Running of the media by the government is an instance of misuse of media.”
