The Ministry for Women, Children and Social Welfare has given final touches to a proposed law regarding the Domestic Violence Against Women. Amid demands from the rights activists and civil society, the government has prepared the law to control and prevent the domestic violence – which is yet to be legally recognized as punishable crime. The proposed draft not only defines the domestic
violence but also has provisions about punishments to the perpetrators. Officials at the Ministry say that the government is keen to introduce the law soon by issuing an ordinance. Earlier, a draft act about the domestic violence had been presented to the parliament. But the parliament got dissolved leaving the bill in a limbo.
