The hearing could not take place at the Special Court Monday on the case filed against Kantipur Television Pvt. Ltd, as the defendants could not make it to the court on time. Today’s hearing was supposed to be the last.
The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authorities (CIAA) had filed a lawsuit against Kantipur Television 14 months ago, charging of swindling Rs.25 million by bribing the then Information and Communication minister Jaya Krakash Prasad Gupta to get its ‘bid bond’ returned.
The hearing had to be postponed as Kantipur officials could not make it to the court by the stipulated time. The defendants were supposed to appear at the court early office hours but arrived at 3pm.
The anti-corruption body has also filed a case against Gupta for illicitly returning the bid bond even before the channel was formally launched.
Gupta has charges of pocketing hefty graft money in this scam. He is out on a bail now.
