Koshi crosses danger level

The water level and the swift current in eastern Koshi river has crossed the danger level following incessant rainfall in the hilly region for the past few days, state run news agencies said.

The control room at the Koshi barrage recorded the water flowing at 335,316 cubic feet per second Sunday afternoon, state run Radio Nepal said quoting the regional police office in Biratnagar.

Current of over of above 300,000 cubic feet per second is the signal of danger.

Reports say that authorities have been put on high alert around the river while 40 of the 56 doors of the Koshi barrage have been opened.
