Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is to leave for Bangkok next week for his health check-up, one of his family members said.

Daughter of premier Koirala and central committee member of Nepali Congress, Sujata Koirala, told reporters in Kathmandu on Tuesday that the premier would visit the Thai capital next week to undergo medical check-up.

The 84-year-old Koirala is suffering from bronchitis and other ailments. Koirala was appointed prime minister in the aftermath of the people’s movement last month. His swearing in ceremony had to be deferred due to his ill health.

Ms Koirala said the premier is likely to pay a visit to India upon his return from Bangkok.

Dates for what would be the premier’s first foreign visit are yet to be finalized.

The government of India has already extended invitation to the premier and deputy prime minister KP Sharma Oli. India is expected to announce a major aid package to Nepal during the visit of premier Koirala.
