According to reports, leaders of the two countries accompanied by senior officials of Nepal and India, held discussions at the 7 Race Course Road, the official residence of the Indian premier.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat said talks were held in a very cordial environment and focused on issues of bilateral interest. He said India was positive towards the proposal for economic assistance submitted by Nepal.

He, however, said the sum of aid package quoted in some Nepali media was not correct.

Media reports in Kathmandu earlier said Nepal was seeking an assistance worth Rs 75 billion from India spread over the next five years.

Officials said Indian premier would announce a major aid package to Nepal during a joint press conference on Friday—the last day of four-day visit to India by premier Koirala.

Premier Koirala is scheduled to meet Home Minister Shiva Raj Patil and Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam later today.

Koirala was accorded hearty welcome by Indian premier Dr. Singh at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday when he arrived in New Delhi on a four-day visit at the invitation of the premier of the southern neighbour.
