Dhulikhel, June 21: Prime Minister and chancellor of Kathmandu University Girija Prasad Koirala today inaugurated a girls hostel under the University built with joint investment from the Royal Danish Embassy and the University.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Koirala said that as the education sector is a backbone in the task of nation building, the time has come for educationists to move ahead with dedication, courage and commitment.
If the base of education is not strong, other sectors will be handicapped, he said adding, about half the financial assistance provided by donor countries for the nation’s development has been taken up by foreign experts as the country lags behind in training skilled manpower.
Pro-chancellor of the University and Minister for Education Amod Prasad Upadhyaya said that the government has put forth the multi-university concept to facilitate subject-wise specialisation and warned that the education sector will become unmanageable if new institutions open rampantly.
Royal Danish ambassador to Nepal Lars Hormann said that he is ready to comply with the call from the university and Dhulikhel Municipality to further the education sector and made it clear the embassy is co-operating with the municipality for ensuring quality education at some 20 primary schools within the municipality.
Vice chancellor of the University Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma said that Kathmandu University is striving for the development of education at its best.
The University, which has been run since 2049 bs covers 340 ropani of land. It has a target of constructing some 24 buildings on its premises.
The girls hostel with a capacity for accommodating some 160 students has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 24.444 million including financial aid of Rs.15 million from the Danish Embassy.
During the function, the registrar of the University furnished details about the master plan and the girls hostel.
