Speaking at an interaction with the leaders and cadres from both congress parties of Okhaldhunga, Thursday, Prime Minister Koirala said, “The congress unification has become more important then ever in view of the present national and international political scene.”
PM Koirala, who also called on one of the founding member of the Nepali Congress Krishna Prasad Bhattarai last week to discuss the unification of two Nepali Congress, said that the unification process would be stepped up once Nepali Congress-Democratic President Sher Bahadur Deuba returns from his Korea visit.
Radio reports quoted, one of the participants of the interaction, Ram Hari Khatiwada as saying that the PM expressed his commitment to reach into the goal of party unification even if some party leaders opposed the idea of unification.
The party cadres at the program too highlighted the need of the proposed unification on grounds of boosting their morale.
Following differences with Koirala, Deuba had formed the NC (D) in 2002. Party reunification has been a major issue in the political discourses of two parties but not clear moves have been made in this direction.
