Kiran, Puja lift national titles

Biratnagar, June 4: Kiran Thapa defeated Samir Bahadur Singh while Balaram Thapa and Rajib Dahal shared the bronze medals in the men’s singles of the 28th National Badminton championship organised by the Biratnagar Badminton Club.

Likewise, in the women’s singles, Puja Shrestha defeated Susmina Shrestha for the title while Sunita Limbu and Samjhana Khaling shared the bronze medals.

Meanwhile, in the women’s doubles, Puja Shrestha and Samina Shrestha won the gold while Lalita Gurung and Purna Pun took the silver. Whereas, Samjhana and Bimal Rai and Yam Kumari Gurung- Tulasi Gurung shared the bronze medals.

In the mixed doubles, Puja Shrestha and Rajib Dahal won the title while Samjhana Khaling and Kiran Thapa collected the silver while Purna Pun – Akal Bahadur Ck and Sunita Limbu- Chandra Shekhar Lama pocketed silver.

Meanwhile, in the veteran’s singles Durga Man Singh collected the gold medal beating Kumar Mohan while Bhuvan Rai and Purna Subba shared the third places. In the veteran’s doubles Durga Man Singh Karki and Jaya Ram Hamal took the title beating Pushpa Tamrakar and Chandra Sherkar Lama while Chandra Bahadur Gurung – Sahadev Ranjit and Khem Gurung and Om Gurung won the bronze medals respectively.

Minister for Sports and Education Amod Prasad Upadhyaya while giving away the prizes said that during its short history, Nepalese sport has done much to enhance nation’s glory and government is striving hard for the institutional development of the sports.

He added that sporting talent will be grouped from various parts of the nation and brought up to par with international meet and to that end the National Sports Council will provide appropriate training as far as permitted by means and resources.

He further added that HMG is enthusiastic about developing the skills of sportsmen and sportsmen should for their part strive in a disciplined manner to attain their skills.

Member secretary of the National Sports Council Binod Shanker Palikhe and Nepal Badminton president Ratan Kumar Tandan spoken.

In the Championship, shuttlers from all the five development Regions had participated.
