Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Narendra Bikram Nemwang, has said that the property details of King Gyanendra should be made public.
“At a time when the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has asked the government to make public the property details of the King, I also believe that the King’s properties should be revealed to the public,” minister Newang said speaking at a face-to-face program organanised by the Reporters’ Club in Kathmandu Saturday.
He expressed confidence that details of the King’s assets will come to the public on time but he did not say anything categorically about the government preparations to this effect.
Speaking at the same program, chairman of the PAC, Chitra Bahadur KC, said the government must bring out the property details of King Gyanendra on time. “People want to know how much property the King owns. Every detail of the fixed properties and the cash balances should be made public,” he demanded.
Nepali Congress leader Narahari Acharya said, “When we are discussing about the restructuring of the state we will be in need of resources for that. There are reports that the King has properties in foreign countries also. We should be mainly concerned about his properties in foreign countries.”
The PAC had last week asked the government to the disclose property details of the King and his family within 15 days.
The House of Representatives has already declared to bring the income and the property of the King and his family under the tax net while almost all sides including civil society groups have been pressuring the government to massively reduce the budget of the royal palace.
