His Majesty King Gyanendra, who is on an unofficial tour to the Eastern Development Region since Friday, visited Biratnagar, Morang district, on Sunday.

His Majesty went to the Koshi Zonal Hospital and acquired information about the condition and the problems with the hospital. The King had also keenly interacted with the patients receiving care at the hospital, reports from Biratnagar said.

From Koshi Hospital, His Majesty walked on foot up to the Regional Police Office at Traffic Chowk where Royal Nepalese Army chief General Pyar Jung Thapa, Inspector General (IG) of Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa and the Armed Police Force IG Shaha Bir Thapa accorded him salutations. The security heads apprised the King about the current security situating in the region.

Reports said thousand of ordinary citizens lined up for the welcome of His Majesty had chance to converse with the monarch as he walked up to the Regional Police Office.

His Majesty then returned to the RNA Eastern Divisional Headquarters, Itahari, where he is staying.

This is His Majesty’s first visit to the districts since February 1 when he assumed direct power.
