Reacting to King Gyanendra’s recent interview in the Time magazine, Nepali Congress President GP Koirala said Tuesday “the King is more autocratic than an 18th century monarch.”
“With his interview, the King has shown that he is not in favour of people’s rights. Instead, he wants to take it back,” Koirala told journalists at the sidelines of a program on Tuesday.
“I warn the King not to play with the sentiments of the youths. The King has to understand the youths’ voice,” Koirala said. “Otherwise, ‘something bad’ will happen.”
Koirala further said it was “useless” to have expectations from the King.
In yet another program on Tuesday, CPN-UML General Secretary MK Nepal said the King’s interview is a “serious setback” to the reconciliation bids.
“Parties will be compelled to continue protests if the King fails to resolve the current impasse through dialogue,” Nepal said.
