His Majesty King Gyanendra graced a special function organised by the Royal Nepalese Army on the occasion of the Military Day and Maha Shivaratri at Tundikhel Tuesday afternoon.
At the ceremony, the King received a 31-gun salute from the army and observed the sporting events, parachute jumps, military parade and cultural programs. He also gave away medals to the winners of parachute free fall competition.
Vice-chairman of the Council of Ministers, Kirti Nidhi Bista, speaker Tara Nath Ranabhat, ministers, delegates of foreign diplomatic missions, heads of constitutional bodies and security chiefs were present on the occasion.
Thousands of common people had observed the ceremony from outside the fences of the army pavilion.
