December 25, 2001 KATHMANDU: A kidney transplant and management committee under the convenor ship of Health Secretary Mahendranath Aryal has been formed to make arrangements for the kingdom’s first transplants within one month, an announcement said.
Special secretary at the Ministry Dr. Somnath Aryal, directors of Bir Hospital and Teaching Hospital, chairman of Nepal Nephrologists Society and director of the National Kidney Centre are members while Dr. Ram Prasad Shrestha of the Health Ministry is member secretary.
An estimated 20,000 kidney patients stand to benefit when transplants begin through reduced costs with treatment available inside the country.
