Kathmandu, Nov.12: A kidnapped activist of the ruling Nepali Congress party escaped from the clutches of Maoist insurgents in Kalikot district Saturday, police said.

Dailekh District Secretary Maniram Regmi forced open the door of a house where he was kept in confinement in Lathando village in adjoining Kalikot district to gain his freedom after being captured on October 12.

Regmi reported to police who flew him to Nepalgunj Saturday.
