Nain Bahadur Khatri, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Thursday wrote a complaint letter to Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand saying police Thursday disregarded a Supreme Court order to present three detained suspected Maoists to the apex court, an announcement said.

The Supreme Court issued a habeus corpus order Wednesday asking police to present three of seven arrested Maoist suspects to the Supreme Court Thursday. The letter is a NHRC’s reminder to PM Chand that police are defiantly disobeying Supreme Court orders.

The NHRC is a government-appointed watchdog to observe human rights abuses.
