A special Kathmandu court Tuesday extended the remand of former ministers Khum Bahadur Khadka and Jayaprakash Prasad Gupta for another nine days, court sources said.

The Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) sought a 15 day extension to prepare corruption charges against them for the third time.

The court also extended the remands of former senior officials of the Water Resources Ministry, Narayan Bahadur Thapa and Amodananda Mishra. Khadka, in collusion with Thapa and Mishra, are suspected of siphoning off Rs.50 million in awarding a contract for an irrigation project in east Nepal without issuing a tender.

Gupta is suspected of awarding an illegal license for import of excess mobile telephones and giving a permit to a private operator to operate a terrestrial television network.

Prosecution lawyers said the four will be formally charged within a fortnight after several months of investigations.
