Karnali Air chopper overturns at TIA, seven hurt

A Karnali Air helicopter overturned on the runway of the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu Tuesday afternoon, injuring seven persons.

The MI-8 helicopter overturned soon after it lifted above the runway during ground run at around 2:30 p.m., flight operations chief of Karnali Air, Ambar Bahadur Shakya, told Nepalnews.

Officials informed the fire station, which is located close to the incident site, after smoke was seen on the helicopter. No major damage took place as the fire was extinguished within minutes.

Seven officials of the airlines including co-pilot Siddhartha Gurung, Sashi Giri and Arun Malla, who were on board, were injured in the incident. The injured are undergoing treatment at the B&B Hospital in Satdobato, Lalitpur.
