Amid ongoing intra-party conflict, the ruling Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has sacked Communications Minister Kamal Thapa from the post of RPP’s general secretary from Friday, an announcement said.

In a letter signed by RPP President Pashupati Shumsher Rana, Thapa has been blamed of disobeying the party’s guidelines, haphazardly appointing local bodies’ representatives and failing to bridge the differences between the party and the government.

Thapa has further been blamed of misusing the state media, adopting autocratic attitudes while carrying out his duties and being unsuccessful in fulfilling the duties assigned to him by the party.

A copy of the letter has been registered at the Ministry of Local Development and another copy of the letter has been faxed to Thapa’s home address, the announcement said.

Thapa, so far, has remained non-committal to the party’s action against him. Thapa is also the spokesperson of the government.

RPP has been pressing Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa to step down. Kamal Thapa has been backing the government, saying, PM Thapa will not quit now.
