Joshi for improvements in existing laws

Kathmandu, June 27:   Minister for Home Govinda Raj Joshi has said that improvements in the existing laws and political commitment are needed to put an end to corruption, a curse for the nation.

Furnishing replies to questions raised by MPs during question-answer time at the meeting of the House of Representatives today, he said preparations for modifications in existing laws concerning the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority and the corruption eradication act are under way.

Necessary work on the censor motions adopted by parliament in the past is being undertaken, he said adding, the amendments for wiping out corruption are being carried out on the basis of a report prepared after consultations with experts.

In reply to a query he said that there is a target to set up an Ilaka administration office at Khotang Bazaar in Khotang.

He said that under the 5-year plan for distributing voter identity cards, Gulmi constituency No. 2 will be covered in the fourth phase in fiscal year 2058/59 and constituency nos. 1 and 3 in the fifth phase in fiscal year 2059/60.

Bhadra Bahadur Thapa, Shiv Kumar Basnet and Pradeep Kumar Gyawali were among MPs who raised the questions.
