Pokhara, June 30: Home Minister Govinda Raj Joshi has said that the local administration and police should always contemplate on presenting themselves as helpful to the people in easy and accessible manner and to provide maximum facilities to them.
Minister Joshi was issuing directives to the participants of the two-day discussions programme of the chief district officers, police officers and officers of the Department of National Investigation at the concluding function here today.
The local administration, the police and the Department of National Investigation should be active in ensuring law and order, combating corruption and maintaining good governance which are the three main works of the present government, Minister Joshi added.
Stating that there would be no compromise with anyone in preventing corruption, smuggling and irregularities, Minister Joshi issued directives to the participants to effectively prevent such undesired activities.
Necessary action has already been initiated to make the Department of National Investigation more effective, he added.
Secretary at the Ministry of Home Padma Prasad Pokharel said that the local administration and police should be specially active in safeguarding the life and property of the people and effectively controlling murder, terror and activities against the constitution.
Inspector General of Police Achyut Krishna Kharel said that the police personnel should maintain a clean image and discharge their duties honestly.
Head of the Department of National Investigation Hari Babu Chaudhari said that the employees of the department should remain active in extending cooperation in maintaining law and order in the country.
The CDOs, the police officers and officers of all the sixteen districts of the western region are participating in the programme.
Also today, Home Minister Joshi inaugurated the regional meeting of the Western Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the meeting hall of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Joshi said that the government was willing to resolve the problems of the industrialists and traders, the foundation pillars of the government.
He noted that as the private sector goes on prospering, the collection of the revenue by the government also goes on increasing which would be helpful in ensuring law and order and implementing development and construction works in the country.
If the private sector does not progress, overall development of the country was not possible, he said and advised the business community not to indulge in unethical and illegal arms trading and run their business on the basis of healthy competition.
Urging the business community not to give donations to any political party during the time of elections, Home Minister Joshi said that if discount was given on the goods sold to the people, it would provide relief to them.
Former President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Ananda Raj Mulmi said that there was an atmosphere of distrust between businessmen, political parties and employees and if this was removed, the country could move ahead.
President of Western Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ashok Shrestha presided.
Also today, Home Minister Joshi, addressing a gathering of the party workers organised by Kaski district committee of the Nepali Congress here today, said that the need and challenge of the day was party unity.
He said “unless the Congress was united, all forms of distortions and inconsistencies cannot be confronted”.
Home Minister Joshi said that the government and the people should know the reasons and demands of those launching movement.
Stating that the government had not removed police posts from anywhere and those removed from 50 places earlier had been re-established, he said that the government was making every effort to guarantee law and order and ensure the return of those who had left their homes.
Secretary of Kaski district Nepali Congress Yagya Bahadur Thapa shed light on the activities of the party.
