Kathmandu, June 19 : A joint team of Nepal and India will make an on the spot inspection of the affected area and prepare a report concerning the steps to be taken to solve the problem caused by construction of dam across the Rapti river.
When the attention of the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was drawn towards the inundation problem created by the dam, the spokesman said that HMG had held talks with the government of India at various levels.
According to him, talks on this matter was also held during the recent visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs to India and also during the Nepal-India high level task force and it was agreed that a joint team would inspect the area and take necessary steps on the basis of the submitted report.
Accordingly, Nepal has already constituted its team and sent the team to the affected area and India has also constituted a team recently and plans to initiate the inspection work from tomorrow, he informed.
Stating that the Prime Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs have been apprised of by the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Committee of the many of the villages of Nepal being inundated as a result of the construction of the dam on the Rapti at Laxmanpur by India, he said that as per the decision of the committee, its members had visited the affected areas.
